Lease management and e-signing
The lease is generated, sent, signed and renewed inside Mastendi — no printing, no scanning, no chasing a signature by email. The signed document becomes the tenant's contract in their portal and yours.
Three ways to a signed lease
Generate from a template with the tenant's details filled in, send the PDF your attorney drafted for signature as it is, or attach a lease that was signed on paper. Whichever door, the signed PDF is what everyone keeps.
How the signing works
The tenant gets a link, confirms who they are, reads the lease on their phone and signs. Then you sign in the app — as the landlord, or as the agent under mandate — or the landlord client signs in the owner portal. The signed PDF carries a certificate of completion recording who signed and when. It is an electronic signature recognised under South Africa's ECT Act.
Renewals as signed addenda
Send the renewal offer; once it is accepted the addendum is generated from it and signed the same way, and the new terms take effect on signature. Lease Renewals shows what is expiring, offered and signed.
Where the document lives
The signed lease is the tenant's contract: in the tenant portal, in the owner portal for the landlord client, and on the tenancy in the workspace.
Questions
Is an electronically signed lease valid in South Africa?
Yes. A lease may be signed electronically under section 13 of the ECT Act, and the certificate of completion records who signed and when.
Can I use my own lease?
Yes — as a template, so the tenant's details are filled in, or as the finished PDF your attorney drafted.
How does the tenant get the link?
By email, and on WhatsApp too when the tenant has opted in. Joint tenants each get their own.
Can a lease signed on paper be recorded?
Yes. Attach it to the tenancy and it is kept and shown in the portals like any other.
